I’m Logan (they/them)
I am a Philosophy PhD Candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, mindfulness teacher, and (semi-retired) musical theatre performer. Click on one of the pictures below to learn more! Click here for my CV.
I specialize in ethics (especially moral psychology and applied ethics), social/political philosophy, and Buddhist philosophy. My research explores what makes life good and how we can make life better—both internally, through attention and emotion, and externally, through just institutions and social practices.
Internally, I am interested in how attention and emotion shape and structure our lives, with a special focus on mindfulness. My dissertation, Mindfulness, Morality, and the Good Life, explores the normative dimensions of contemporary mindfulness, arguing that mindfulness has a valuable role to play in our moral lives (even for those who are not Buddhists). I am also interested in the applied ethical questions surrounding attention and technology, including the bioethics of Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs).
Externally, I am interested in how we can redress structural injustices, with a focus on LGBTQ+ issues. One research project in social/political philosophy explores the obligations of institutions and individuals to dismantle the subordination of LGBTQ+ people. My paper “Delegitimizing Transphobic Views in Academia” was recently published with open-access in the Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy.
